Sacramento Valley Muzzle Loaders

Objectives:

  • To promote black powder muzzleloader competitive shooting, safety, and knowledge through informal monthly shoots and formal match competition.
  • Provide NMLRA Range Safety Officer training. To conduct shoots and matches which conform to NMLRA rules and format.
  • To provide specialty black powder matches to be determined by demand.
  • To provide parctice and training toward state, regional, and national NMLRA competition.
  • To provide a safe and instructional shooting venue for ALL muzzle loading SHOOTERS.

Schedules: In 2011, shoots and matches meet on Range 11 on the second Sunday of each month *except as noted below. Shooting begins at 9am.

Formats:

  • Shooting programs include formal and primitive target shooting.
  • Relays are 30 minutes.
  • Training in the use of muzzle loading firearms by national competition experienced shooters with combined experience of over 100 years.

Fees: SVML family membership fees are $60 per year. A range fee of $5 per shooter per day is charged. Shooters are encouraged, but not required, to be members. Target frames and targets will be provided to members. There could be a nominal target fee to cover these expenses for non-SVML shooters.

Equipment:

  • All muzzle loading firearms using black powder or a black powder substitute and a round ball are welcome. This includes both rifle and pistol. Inline muzzle loaders are accepted as well.
  • Since we encourage participation and shooters new to muzzle loading, we can help new shooters with other required items and safety issues.
